Review

Sumo do, Sumo don’t sounded silly when I first looked at it; and to be fair it is. However that doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth the effort and that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a go.

A University has a hard time promoting it’s Sumo program, it’s unpopular and failing. In order to keep the club alive they must compete every year in this competition! We meet student Shuhei Yamamoto who is failing his class. In order to pass his tutor insists that he joins the Sumo club and competes in the competition. In order to succeed he must sign up a few more lads! It doesn’t matter if they win or lose they just have to turn up! So Shuhei recruits his brother, an American wrestler and the class fat kid. That’s basically the plot right there. However there is also a nice unrequited love story going on as well as some other stuff I won’t go into!

This movie has some very amusing moments and a general feel that makes you want things to work out for these people. They are very likable characters and with a nice funny fast paced plot you will be hard pressed to be bored! Well directed, well cast and well written, there isn’t really a lot else to say about it other than watch it!!

This won quite a few awards when it came out and I can see why. It’s just a nice family film! Some of it may be predictable but it doesn’t matter because as a whole the thing keeps you watching right to the very end and then leaves you with a nice warm feeling!

4 out of 5
