Review

She Shoots Straight is an all out HK Cop/Crime Action flick. I liked it despite it’s massive plot holes.

Joyce Godenzi plays a cop, a good cop. At the beginning we see her marrying Tony Leung who is also a damn good cop! He has some sisters who are all cops! One of them in particular in jealous of the new missus… this is the cause of some terrible tragic events which I’m not going to go into… but believe me it’s all pretty tragic. The melodramatic elements in this film are mind blowing… she really does have a bad time of it! The plot in general it has to be said is appalling, if this plot had been in a western film we would’ve torn down the cinema (because rubbish plot would’ve been all we had)… but this is a HK film… and it really doesn’t matter that the plot sucks… you forgive it all and more because what they give you in return is just so cool!

Action wise this film is excellent, it’s just what you expect and want from a HK action film. You have car chases, crashes, guns (she seems to shoot straightish) and mucho fighting! You also have whole bundles of really crazy cool looking stunts! Yeah it’s a chick with gun flick but this is probably the best of that genre I’ve seen! It’s everything you expect from a Corey Yuen directed movie.

I really had to laugh when after a few hours in hospital having a serious operation, without anaesthetic (It’s true!) Joyce is back in action again leaping off stuff, kicking people… getting kicked! There are a lot of moments in this film that made me snigger, but not in a bad way;) The actors do a fine job; it doesn’t take itself too seriously and neither should you.

If you like HK action then you should see this! There are many worse ways you could spend 90 minutes.
