Secret of the Shaolin Poles is inother above average KF flick. As the title would suggest it revolves around a duel (well 2 actually) that take place atop the old Shaolin Poles.

It’s your pretty basic fare as far as these things are concerned, Plot is more than predictable, Dude avenging dead friends, gets a kicking… bad guy is really bad (lol, he is a bad ‘un, he threatens to rape this woman atop the Shaolin Poles… shich would be some trick… wonder if that’s a special move of his form of martial arts.). Some other guy trains our hero up a bit better and some ass is kicked at the end.

Fight wise this is nicely choreographed, as you would expect since the director Lau Kar-leung directed many a classic Movie for Shaw Brothers. Fast and furious action with nice flowing movements for the most part. The Japanese fighter in this Movie is Yasuaki Kurata who you may well recognise from Fist of Legend, he is very good and this is worth a look just for him.

This is not a bad action flick for an evening of getting smashed, not a good film but then not many of these are. If you’ve seen many old KF flicks you’ll know what to expect. Has some real laugh out loud moments as well!
