The latest movie from Jackie Chan… I gave this one a try simply because it wasn’t one of Jackie's US made movie… So thought it shouldn’t be as bad as the latest US made Jackie Chan movies… well that's was I thought.

The story's about Jackie Chan who's an archeologist traveling the globe in search of artifacts to share with the world in museum. One day his long time buddy William propose Jackie to go on an expedition to "get information" about a levitating sarcophagus in India… little does Jackie knows, William has a hidden agenda to "steal" an artifact from the tomb with "good intentions" behind his motivation to do so. And so Jackie's adventure starts. While the plot of Jackie hunting the truth behind the mysteries of the levitating stone, Jackie is hunted by dreams of what seems to be himself in a past life where he is a great Qin general in charge of protecting a Concubine who's suppose to marry an Emperor. Now this former self goes into multiple adventures with the concubine and inevitably they fall in love with each other.  As the Present day Jackie uncovers new clues about the levitating stones, he also discover that his past live was also somehow related to the stone. Each new clue Present Day Jackie uncovers reveal a moment in the Past Time Jackie.

Now this whole story looks rather complicated… actually it gets only more complicated towards the end… ultimately you'll be asking yourself what the heck is going on. What I can tell about the movie is that it starts rather smoothly… typical Jackie Chan movie; cute humor, nice action scenes, and funny moments in fights… really this started out as a rather good "normal" Jackie Flick the likes of Rumble in the Bronx & Operation Condor not incredibly great movies but quite entertaining. Only THE MYTH gets only more and more complex and complicated… it goes from typical treasure hunting going bad with lots of action and humor, switching to deep drama romance and then to incredibly far fetch sci-fi fantasy… even for sci-fi fantasy… its quite far fetch. If it weren’t for the way the movie ends… THE MYTH would've been a decent movie… but the most annoying thing really is the ending. It's so far fetch, that I'd want to tell you about it and talk for 4-5 paragraph simply on it, yet I don’t want to spoil anything so I'll just shut about it and let you people decide.

Story isn’t great… so what about the rest? The Cast is quite good… The supporting characters are quite good, specially those playing in the Qin past lives… Jackie is always top notch BUT I was really, REALLY shocked a few times in the movie… Jackie has been known for refusing to use stunt doubles and always do his stunts himself… in this movie I've notice a couple of times that Jackie is actually using a silicone stunt double… it's quite unbelievable to see a CGI Jackie Chan perform his stunts. I know Jackie's not as top shape as he used to be… but a CGI stunt double? That's a Shocker to me. They could've at least use a guy that looked like Jackie… the CGI wasn’t really well done and it really shows whenever CGI Jackie comes to play.

As for the entertainment value, the movie do deliver parts of what casual Jackie Chan fans asks; great fights mixed up with a good humor… and we do get some of that in the first half of the movie… but those casual Jackie fans might feel let down in the second half where everything gets weirder as the story unfolds.

I'm still undecided whether I liked or not the movie… the whole Past and Present Jackie was good but when things got serious at the end… wow… I didn’t expect that… so many thing just doesn’t fit or feel right at the end… all the "Good Parts"  of the first half were kind of thrown off balance with the... "Far fetch downer Climax". The flow goes from Action, funny, action, funny, romance, drama, drama, drama, romance, action, weird-shit-going on, holy-shit-I-hope-this-is-a-dream-sequence, some more action, big drama & the end. It just doesn’t feel right.

I'd recommend this only to the die hard Jackie Fans or for those desperately looking for something with Epic flavor. I do say the "epic" part of the movie is incredibly well done and I've enjoyed it plentiful. The other part with the Present Jackie is quite good too for a "casual" Jackie flick… but where it gets ugly is when both starts to  mix themselves up.

Story: 2.5/5
Cast: 4/5
Entertainment value 3.5/5

3 out of 5
Recommended only to die hard Jackie Fans
